One of the first items on our to-do list for the garden was to cut down a cherry tree in our front lawn. Although a beautiful tree, it was large and in the way of planned walking paths. In addition, it was too close to where the grotto was to be constructed, and we didn’t want the tree to obscure or potentially fall down on the grotto.

Clearing the cherry tree gave us more “breathing space” near the grotto. It was something I knew was on our to do list – it was at the top of my list, so I had it cut down while Chou Chou was at work. I had to ask for forgiveness and sometimes that’s easier than asking for permission. By clearing this tree out of the way, it has helped to truly visualize the garden space and imagine what it will be.
